13A Reading Reflection

The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users, Guy Kawasaki
1) You read about an
entrepreneur:
· What surprised you the most?
I was
most surprised the by the number of tactics used for social media and the and
plans to manage multiple accounts. It just never really occurred to me the
number of things you can do with your social media platforms. One strategy that
stood out to me was using your separate platforms accounts to speak to each other.
An example as making a post on you Instagram that you will be releasing
something on your YouTube channel so that your two audiences could merge.
· What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?
I liked
that Guy really highlighted the fact that all the social media platforms have
given anyone when a phone a computer the opportunity to socially brand
themselves. This was reinforced when he made the statement Amazon allows you to
be a self-published writer, YouTube lets you have your own TV show, and sound
cloud allows you to be your own music artist.
· What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
Some of
his concepts were a little outdated and some of things he is teaching the
common 12-year-old will be able to figure out in the coming years as technology
is so wide spread.
· Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so,
what did they do about it?
He
started at apple in 1983 and had the problem of marketing the Macintosh which
was much more difficult because he relied on demonstrations, speeches, and
articles. This was an issue because social media was not really around for him to
market as easy as we can. As social media progressed, he was there, watching its
growth and studying.
2) What competencies did
you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
I felt that because he
worked for apple in a marketing job before social media was prevalent and
watched as it boomed, he has become an expert on the use because he was there
for day one.
3) Identify at least one
part of the reading that was confusing to you.
One part I found confusing
was the discovering for need for having an account on every platform. I feel
that for certain businesses you would not need to have a YouTube channel or a
snap chat. Maybe adds on those platforms but not necessarily a account with
daily posts.
4) If you were able to
ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
I would ask Guy how can I
followers for my business account for a product that I am just creating? And
how do I target an audience in my ads.
5) For fun: what do you
think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
I feel like my entrepreneur has the idea of working smarter
not harder. I feel like if you were to suggest going door to door selling a certain
product he would laugh because he is a social media wizard. I think that
technology has sped up the process of reaching out to people so he would think
hard work is about being the most efficient.
Hi Chris,
ReplyDeleteI found the book you read extremely interesting as it highlighted the benefits that social media can have on an aspiring entrepreneur. I agree with you that sometimes we do not realize the useful tools in our society today such as social media that can really jumpstart our career. I also found it interesting that you believe your entrepreneur's idea of hard work is working smarter, not harder. I agree with this working ideal as you can accomplish so much in just as much time if not less by working smarter. Overall, very intriguing reflection!
